Off the Chain coffee house will showcase individual, group talents

Bearden’s mixed a cappella group Off the Chain is hosting their fourth annual coffee house on Friday in the band room at 7:30 p.m.

Each a cappella member will have the opportunity to perform individually, and the group as a whole will also perform songs they’ve been rehearsing for their spring concert, which takes place on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

“If you can’t come to the spring concert, this is the best alternative,” junior Alyse McCamish said. “It’s also the coolest thing that chorus does, in my opinion.”

Members of the group are excited to show off their diverse voices and creativity through their individual performances.

“It gives us a chance to be really creative with different styles of music and put our own spin on things, and we get to show off musical strengths that don’t always get shown in choral or a cappella music,” senior Ryan Walker said.

Off the Chain has been working on songs by Bastille, OneRepublic, and Coldplay all semester to prepare for Coffeehouse and their spring concert. They’ll also perform a couple medleys, including a James Bond tribute.

According to Ms. Mary Sexton, the first half of the evening will consist of individual acts by members of the group, including solos, duos, trios, and quartets—all in acoustic style. Then after a 15-minute break, the entire group will perform their spring concert set.
