Choral department putting on free concert in BHS auditorium
October 6, 2016
Bearden’s Choral Department will have a free concert on Thursday in the BHS auditorium at 7 p.m.
There will be performances from Bearden’s female a capella group B Natural and guest performances from the West Valley Middle School Choir.
New choir director Mr. Evan Headrick is excited to be putting on his first concert at Bearden and being able to show off all his students unique skills.
“The Bearden choirs are unique to me in a number of ways,” Mr. Headrick said. “First, my wife, as well as many of her friends, is an alumni of the program, so that gives it a special place in my heart.
“It’s also unique that there are so many talented individuals in such a wide variety of backgrounds. I think that our choirs represent a great amount of diversity that can sometimes be overlooked in large groups.”
The choral department will put on a joint performance with the West Valley Middle School choir. There will be four different choirs performing new and old genres of music and pieces from around the world.
Mr. Headrick is especially excited to see how well the two schools’ choirs perform together.
“I’m most looking forward to the middle school students getting to see what we are about here at the high school,” Mr. Headrick said. “I think it will be a great experience for them to begin bridging the gap between high school and middle school.”
Sophomore Maggie Price is a member of the female chorus and has high hopes for tonight’s performance.
“I think the concert will go really well,” Price said. “We’ve put a lot of effort into our rehearsals and into memorizing the music.
“I think in general that we will do very well with the songs that Mr. Headrick has chosen for us.”
Senior Jenna Justus is also excited for B Natural’s performance.
“I’m really excited to go on stage and show everyone how hard we’ve been working over the past few months,” Justus said. “We’ve all been working so hard and we have some really amazing soloists, and a really cool setlist with songs that everyone will know, so I think overall I’m just excited to perform with them.”
