Senior Addison Ironside has been recovering fumbles and making big hits on defense, but he’s also been picking up first downs from the tight end position.

The Bearden football team is unbeaten through its first two games and looking for its first 3-0 start since 2012.

One of the factors that has contributed to that early success has been the increase in players that play both sides of the ball.

“I think it has made us more successful,” said senior Matt Carr, who starts at both receiver and defensive back. “It creates a sense of accountability and responsibility and along with that comes leadership.”

Playing both sides of the ball means more responsibility both on and off the field, but Carr said that the increase in responsibility has done nothing but strengthen the team.
