Both golf teams capture district titles with boys topping Farragut in a playoff
Both the boys and girls golf teams won the district tournament earlier this week, with the boys making history as the first team to dethrone Farragut as district champions since 2003.
The girls won by four strokes, and Gray Loftin won the title for the boys by sinking a putt on a playoff hole to give the Bulldogs a one-stroke edge and end the Admirals’ 17-year reign.
“It was awesome,” Coach Tyler Lane said. “Our team has worked really hard to be in a position like that to have a chance to win.
“They worked hard, and it’s cool to see them have some success after putting in that much work.”
Having one program win a district crown is always exciting, but both teams from the same sport winning it gives players and coaches alike a sense of pride.
“It’s just something that doesn’t happen that often and something that we’re really going to appreciate and enjoy for a long time,” Coach Lane said.
Both teams now head to the region championship on Tuesday with the first tee time set for 9 a.m.
