SGA president-elect Harmon starts planning for 2012-13
Bearden SGA has seen several fearless leaders in the past few years, from Valedictorian Jordan Kirkland to BHS golf star Ben Reeves, each highly involved across the board in the school community. Junior Madison Harmon, elected SGA president for 2012-13 on April 19, will be no exception. âMadison is an all-around awesome person,â senior class president-elect Greyson Nevins said. âWith her passion and experience, I know we will have one of the best school years ever.â In addition to other class and SGA positions students vote on annually, the freshman, sophomore, and junior offices of class secretary and class treasurer were added to the ballot this year. Because no clear winner was determined for the post of Sophomore Class Treasurer, there will be a runoff between candidates Nathaniel Hauser and Katya Bobrek in Advisory on Thursday. All tenth grade homerooms will have the opportunity to cast ballots. Harmon began working with SGA her freshman year and has since held the offices of sophomore class president, TASC vice president, and junior class president. âAs I began to help out more, I realized how amazing it was, and how much I truly enjoyed it,â Harmon said. Thursdayâs election has rewarded Harmon for years of dedicated school service, but she has already begun planning for next fall. âMy main goal is to continue to bring out the good ole’ tradition of beating Farragut in the Second Harvest competition,â said Harmon, who is the sister-in-law of SGA sponsor and English teacher Mrs. Rachel Harmon. âI would love to break our total from this past year as well. âAs for new projects? Let’s just say I have some tricks up my sleeves.â Harmonâs animated personality and diligent work effort have earned her tremendous respect from her peers. âShe is so responsible and sweet, and I’ve yet to meet one person who doesn’t absolutely love her,â junior class president-elect Katherine Krouse said. âI’m definitely looking forward to working with her next year.â In addition to her role with SGA, Harmon also has taken on a few others in the Fine Arts department with musical theater and Bearden Singers. âYou may have seen me as the crazy grandmother Berthe in Pippin last semester,â she said. âThe theatre program at Bearden is such a great program to be involved with.â With so much responsibility in the Bearden community, Harmon describes âstaying after school as late as possibleâ as a hobby. âI know she is going to make this school year the best for everyone,â junior class vice president-elect Cara Wolfe said.
