Prom committee set to unmask year of planning

Bearden’s 2012 Prom will take place on Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Knoxville Convention Center. This year’s theme? “It’s Bearden’s first masquerade,” said junior Mackenzie Immenhort, a member of prom committee. Since early in the fall, prom committee has been working on the event under the guidance of sponsor Mrs. Anna Graham. “I’m very excited about this year’s theme because we are adding a very elegant touch and fresh twist on a very cliché and over done prom theme,” Mrs. Graham said. “I, of course, always like to see our ideas come to fruition.” While decorations and T-shirts will most definitely be a part of this year’s prom, the committee has also discussed setting up a mask-making booth for attendants. “This year, the theme has a more elegant, romantic vibe and feel compared to the more relaxed, causal atmosphere of last year’s,” prom committee president Molly Grogan said. Guests will also be able to vote for Prom King and Queen on Saturday. Nominees for this year’s Queen are Sarah Mynatt, Sami Scales, Brittany Sliger and Cathy Thompson; candidates up for King are Luke Candela, Ty Hill, Jim Johannes, and Colton LeBeouf. Students must arrive on Saturday with a picture ID and ticket to be admitted. While this year’s prom is all set, Mrs. Graham has already booked next year’s prom for May 4, 2013. Prom Committee will begin meeting in late September. “We are fully involved in the prom planning, from picking the theme and designing the T-shirts to setting up on the day of prom,” Grogan said. Students interested in becoming members next year must be juniors or seniors willing to meet weekly at 7:45 a.m. “Prom Committee is fun, but it’s hard work,” Immenhort said. “We need some more male voices.
