The 2023-2024 school year has brought many new updates to Bearden, and more are still to come.
When approaching Bearden’s campus the first thing students and staff may notice are the newly paved driveways and parking lots.
In past school years, students had to drive on surfaces filled with potholes and debris. This caused a lot of difficulty when driving on campus.
Senior Adaline Armstrong is a part of the marching band at Bearden High School. She has spent many hours practicing on the old parking lots.
“There is no longer a divide in the junior lot,” she said, leaving more room for driving and parking around school grounds.
Armstrong added that due to the darker and smoother pavement that campus has “gotten a lot cleaner.”
English teacher Mrs. Anne Fine is the sponsor of the Senior Committee. Each year, students in the committee will choose something they want to fix or add around the school for their senior gift.
The Class of 2023 decided to update the trophy cases and photo boards around campus.
Mrs. Fine said that the class of 2023 discussed different ways to make sure the new photo boards will have longevity. This process included taking plenty of brand new photos and not adding any font to the boards to give Bearden a rejuvenated look for years to come.
These photos will be located throughout the school. Many students may even see their face on some of them.
The trophy cases can be seen near the gym.
“Bearden is a welcoming place,” Mrs. Fine said, and she hopes the refurbished look of the school will help promote that feeling for years to come.
