The Bearden homecoming dance is a tradition that has existed for almost as long as the school itself.
It has evolved over the years from a traditional school formal, to what SGA homecoming committee chair Reagan Wells calls “just a big dance party.”
It’s a great time for students to get to hang out with their friends after the football game and continue to celebrate what is hopefully a Bulldog victory.
Though the event is organized by the Bearden SGA, most of the responsibility of choosing a theme is left to the student section.
“They (student section leaders) asked us this year, and they had already set the Hawaiian theme, and we thought that that would be a fun theme,” Wells said.
This collaboration allows for students to leave the game ready to go in their themed outfits to dance the night away with their friends.
SGA sponsor Mrs. Autumn Suranofsky is in her first year organizing the homecoming dance.
“The homecoming committee has really done a great job about planning everything, picking the theme, picking the decorations,” she said. “I’m just here for support.”
Her support has been a driving force behind the dance’s preparation.
SGA has been hard at work behind the scenes these past few weeks making sure that this year’s homecoming is the best yet. They’ve spent weeks collecting food donations and making decorations that fit the bright and colorful theme.
The hard work that the group has put in has allowed them to have most of the work done before the week of the dance. That means they can make sure to get into the luau spirit for Friday.
Homecoming tickets are $10 and remain on sale at lunch through Friday. Students can also purchase them at the door, but they will be more expensive. The dance will start after the football game, and it will run until midnight in the courtyard.
