The birth of the Bearden Mentors program has brought with it many new traditions to help the freshman class settle into their place in high school.
One such tradition is the Starry Night event, previously named Freshman Sunset.
It serves as a complement to the Senior Sunrise event and is representative of both the sun setting on their middle school lives and the stars that they will grow into as they continue through high school.
“[The event serves as] a big kickoff to the rest of their year,” mentoring president Madeleine Davis said.
Through Starry Night, the freshmen are exposed to people that they may not have met otherwise, especially because they come from multiple middle schools.
“It’s important for the freshmen to get to know each other on a level that’s outside of school,” Davis said.
The Starry Night event gives them this chance. Featuring food, games, and music, it is the perfect opportunity to hang out with old friends and make new ones.
There is no denying the benefit that this social event serves for the students who attend, and it is not something that they will ever forget.
“It was the first time that I really felt like my class came together as a whole,” said sophomore Nora Johnson, who attended the event last year.
Starry Night will be held on the soccer field on Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30.
