Bearden’s performing arts programs have been working hard for weeks to welcome the holiday season with performances from band, orchestra, and choir.
All performances will take place in one week’s time. Not only does this give the student body a chance to support their fellow classmates, it creates a strong supportive community within the different programs.
Senior Mustafa Arkawazi has played the euphonium in the band since he was a freshman. His favorite part of the winter concert season is that he gets to play fun holiday music, along with being a part of the supportive performing community.
“We are all working towards the same kind of goal,” Arkawazi said.
Aderynna Silavong, a senior orchestra student, adds that the performing arts programs, specifically the performances, are full of connections.
“They kind of connect a lot of the people, and we also are all friends with each other,” Silavong said.
Added Bearden Choir President Cameron Mize: “I love getting to do all the nitty gritty work on all of our music and getting to see how it turns out as a group and then also seeing all the others on what they have gotten to do.”
Many orchestra, band, and choir students will attend other concerts apart from their own.
“We have a really, really good community,” Mize said. “We really like to support each other by going to concerts, running events, [and] fundraisers.”
Arkawazi will attend the orchestra concert this year to show his support. Silavong says she will try to attend choir.
Orchestra will hold the first concert of the season Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Bearden auditorium. Band will celebrate the holiday season on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Bearden gymnasium. The final show will be the choir’s performance Monday at 7:30 p.m.
