With last year’s exceptional graduating class leaving the Bearden girls golf team, seniors Addi Kammann and Katie Early have had big shoes to fill. However, they looked forward to this challenge, along with the task of mentoring the younger athletes.
The Lady Bulldogs had to replace Class of 2024 standout Maya Hira, who was one of the best golfers in school history.
“The seniors last year were really talented, and we are going to work to match their dedication to the team,” Kammann said.
Kammann has played on the team since her freshman year, and Early joined as a sophomore, meaning that both will bring veteran experience to the new members.
“I learned that perfection is never going to happen, but with that, you learn to appreciate the smaller successes,” Early said.
Added Kammann: “My years on the golf team have taught me how to be a leader.”
First year head coach Billie Davis has similar aspirations for the season.
“My goals for the girls team are to mentor my younger athletes, helping them get prepared for how golf matches go,” Coach Davis said.
Early wrapped up her Bearden golf career at the district tournament earlier this week, but Kammann will compete in the region tournament Tuesday at Egwani Farms.
Early hopes that other girls will join the team, as she and Kammann leave the program in the hands of the underclassmen.
“You get to grow relationships with people you wouldn’t have gotten to otherwise,” Early said.
Added Kammann: “There is a wholesome team environment. You know you’re a part of a family.”
Prior golf experience is not needed to be a part of the team.
“Girls with or without experience can join and learn the great game of golf,” Coach Davis said.
Added Kammann: “Coach Davis is very encouraging to everyone on the golf team, or anyone trying to pick up the sport. We have put a lot of effort into the program and hope to see it pay off.”
