Bearden theatre students put on Annual Skits last week with a show inspired by the 2024 film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Senior Brogan Armstrong narrated throughout the production as Beetlejuice.
Each year, Theatre 1 and 2 students are prompted to write, direct, and act in a skit aimed to introduce each senior awarded with a superlative.
“The hope is to create a show that the audience will find entertaining,” Armstrong said. “When we were brainstorming and Beetlejuice came up, we knew that’s what the theme should be.”
Annual skits offer theater students a unique opportunity to construct a scene, and bring that vision to life. Armstrong appreciates the creative freedom students are granted when building their skit.
”The process of creating each skit is heavily student-driven,” Armstrong said. “With the broad rubric, there is a lot or room for creativity during the writing process.”
Armstrong even took it upon himself to rewatch both Beetlejuice movies with the goal of bettering his depiction of the character. However, this was not a difficult task due to his natural talent and passion for voice acting.
“I have always been interested in visual arts, especially voice acting,” Armstrong said.
Alongside creating each skit, students are exposed to the theater program. Armstrong has found the experience to draw many students into the class.
“I think a lot of students join the class not knowing how much they will enjoy it,” he said. “After annual skits, most students want to come back for another semester.”
Armstrong values the process of voting for senior superlatives because it allows him and his classmates to vote on the best in their class.
“I think students appreciate having the opportunity to vote for superlatives,” he said.
