This year’s Bearden homecoming will be much different than years past.
Homecoming representatives will have a prince or princess for each grade this year, as well as senior homecoming king and queen.
“This is our first time having princesses and princes besides our usual king and queen,” said Ms. Angelia Ford, who is the homecoming court sponsor. “For each grade, it will be the person with the top votes, prince or princess.”
Last year’s homecoming king and queen Jordan James and Kenzie Bankes will return to campus to crown the king and queen at halftime of Friday’s football game between Bearden and Oak Ridge.
This year’s homecoming theme for both the student section and the dance is “Superheroes” – a unique and different twist from previous years. The student section leaders chose the theme for the game, and SGA decided to keep that theme consistent for the dance.
“We went back and forth on some theme ideas, but ultimately wanted to stick with the superhero theme,” said senior Vidya Subbanna, the head of the homecoming committee for SGA. “We just found a way to make that work better for the dance where we have altered it a little bit to where we made it a superhero city, so we have a lot of New York City decorations.”
They are also giving out superhero masks to the first 100 students to buy tickets.
Kickoff for the football game is at 7 p.m., and the dance runs from 8:30 to 11:30.
