Many Bearden juniors recently had the opportunity to complete a job shadow experience.
They were able to experience a career of their interest and build upon valuable skills, such as communication and professionalism.
Based on their academies and pathways, students were able to select a career that they would be interested in pursuing in the future. The main goal of this experience was to give students a new perspective toward their future plans.
The students were asked to contact the workplace and set up a day and time that works best for the company.
Academy coach Mrs. Kelley Darnell said that around 230 students participated.
“We had a huge turnout and great feedback from some students that said they had a great time,” Mrs. Darnell said.
Completing a job shadow experience is a Knox County Schools requirement for all juniors in the academy model. The intent is to further the opportunities for students and narrow their decisions on future careers.
“It gave them the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and learn professional communication,” Mrs. Darnell said.
Added BLC dean Ms. Tricia Leslie: “The job shadow allowed students to realize that maybe that job isn’t the path they want to pursue.”
