The Bearden cheer team has a new locker room underneath the football stadium.
The team knows it as “The Dawg House” or “The Locker Room,” and the seniors have been excited to have it for their final football season at Bearden.
Before this year, the cheerleaders had never had a place to get ready or secure a permanent place to put their belongings for football season.
“It’s so nice to have our own environment to get ready for games, and we don’t have to worry about our stuff getting stolen,” senior Ashlyn Hunter said.
Added senior Cami Burleson: “The past three years we’ve just had a closet to put our mats and stuff in. We would have to get ready in the hallways or the bathrooms.”
The cheerleaders have always played a pivotal part of the game day experience, but the new locker room has helped their motivation and made them feel more at home in the stadium.
“We’ve worked really hard especially for comp season and sidelines,” senior Lilly Rhea said. “So many of us are really focused on competing this season.”
The cheer team wants to support their teams at Bearden and work hard to be the best they can be.
“We’ve put a lot of work in,” Hunter said. “We’ve been practicing at Premier Athletics and trying to put in that extra work and support the teams here at Bearden.”
They have been working hard and are competing this weekend at a UCA regional competition in Concord, N.C. This competition provides an opportunity for them to qualify for nationals in Orlando in February.
