Earlier this month, Bearden hosted its first ever all-female signing day.
There were 8 student-athletes on the stage. Kendall Murphy and Aisha Patel signed for basketball; Eva Baker, Halle Bibee, Natalie Heinig, Callia Misenheimer, and Drew Tolley for soccer; and Brooke Dawson for volleyball.
“A signing day is a culmination of many, many years of a lot of hard work,” girls basketball coach Justin Underwood said. “A lot of seen work and unseen work.”
All these girls have put in time outside of practice and dedicated their high school years to working hard to get to this moment and move on to an academic and athletic career in college.
“Being able to play college soccer speaks volumes of the program itself, which is how the girls have established themselves, and at the same time the love they have for the game,” girls soccer coach Ryan Radcliffe said.
Bearden has always had extensive success in girls athletics, but this signing day was just another example of how many elite female athletes are involved in a wide variety of sports.
“I feel like Bearden has really dominant female sports, but I think that gets overlooked a lot,” said Dawson, who signed to play volleyball at Troy. “We have such talented female athletes, and I think it was really cool to see these great girls that worked really hard to get where they are.”
