The Senior Committee for the Class of 2025 has decided to give the school high top tables in the West Mall commons.
The Senior Committee reached out to people around the school and coordinated with principal Mrs. Debbie Sayers and Mr. Morgan Shinlever – who oversees Bearden’s maintenance and facilities – to make the best use of the new tables.
“We have worked with both Mr. Shinlever and Mrs. Sayers to get KCS approval as well as financial and installation help in the planning process,” senior gift chair Maci Ritzman said.
The hope for these tables is that all students can make use of them, but also predominantly dual enrollment students who don’t necessarily have a designated space to work.
“We came up with this gift with dual enrollment students in mind,” Ritzman said.
The tables will include power outlets so students can charge their computers and phones.
“They can charge their laptop and even phone,” senior secretary William Kitts said.
Clubs will be given the opportunity to paint over the tables and advertise the details of their clubs. This hopefully will lead to more students joining and help students to get more involved in the school.
The idea came about from the Class of 2024 senior committee. This year’s committee decided to take the idea and expand it.
“Last year’s class talked about putting bar tables around the pit,” senior committee sponsor Mrs. Anne Fine said. “They just kind of expanded it.”
Senior committee is now in the process of figuring out what is the most cost effective way to execute this gift.
“Do we purchase them or have Knox County build them?” Mrs. Fine said.
Senior committee utilizes food trucks and bake sales throughout the year to be able to supply the senior gift to the school.
Ritzman is glad to have the opportunity to give something she is proud of to the school that she has been a part of for the past few years.
“Senior committee is a great way to give back to the school and your class for the past four years,” Ritzman said.
