A recycling bin for clothes is now on campus to encourage students to participate in second hand recycling.
A few months ago, a representative from the company Clothes Bin reached out to Bearden’s bookkeeper Mrs. Nicole Webb to see if Bearden would be interested in hosting a bin.
“I thought it was a really cool idea, and wanted to do it because we just cleaned out a huge storage closet and we had probably 8 different comforter sets, and I felt awful throwing them away,” Mrs. Webb said. “Then when I looked at this, I was like this is so great because most of the time, these types of items are thrown away.”
The bin is located at the bottom of the Kingston Pike entrance and is not only open to students and staff, but the entire community.
“I will definitely be utilizing the bin; it’s a great idea,” junior Lydia Kerr said. “I feel like second hand clothing is a great way to help the environment and be less wasteful.”
Donations can include any type of clothing, even worn-out items that thrift stores will not accept.
Not only do students get to give back to the community, but for every pound of items donated, Bearden will receive seven cents back.
To learn more about donations, flyers have been posted throughout the school, along with info being posted on the Wednesday Weekly and on PTO social media pages.
