Four Bearden students broke the school record for the Swedish Relay at the Hardin Valley Invite on Saturday.
“It’s fun to run because you know when you have a really fast 100m runner, 200m runner, 300m runner, and 400m runner, you’ve got to throw them all together,” Coach Matthew Eckert said.
They ran a 2:04, beating the previous record by 8 seconds. Senior Joel Bishop ran the 100, sophomore Evan Fisher ran the 300, senior Gavin Bailey ran the 200, and senior Cade Crum ran the 400.
This race is not an event at most meets, so this was a rare opportunity to break the school record.
“It was really fun because it was our last opportunity to run with Cade because he’s distance,” Bailey said.
Each runner ran a PR for his split of the relay.
“Handoffs were smooth, no one tripped or anything,” Crum said.
The relay worked perfectly since all of the boys know each other and enjoy working together.
“Having that mix of distance and sprints works so well when you have that good chemistry between them,” Coach Eckert said.
