The Bearden Singers choir group made an appearance in Washington in March to perform at a variety of different venues in hopes to grow their performance skills.
“It’s through a company called Performance America,” senior Piper Milligan said. “It’s to help high schoolers get more experience.”
They performed publicly at The World War II Memorial.
“We went to the World War II memorial and sang the star spangled banner,” sophomore John Anderson said.
Bearden Singers also were able to sing for JMU’s choir professor and were provided with feedback.
“We got a little lecture from JMU about singing professionally in college,” Anderson said.
To give back to the community, Bearden Singers performed at a local church.
The purpose of this trip was to help the students get “used to performing in front of big audiences,” Anderson said, and to help to grow their experience performing in different environments.
This trip allowed Bearden Singers to showcase their skills to many others.
“It helped to show people what we do,” Anderson said.
The trip helped to bond the group, and the students hope that it will help the harmony of the choir.
“Our group is very connected and like a family,” Milligan said.
Bearden Singers will perform at the Tennessee Music Education Association (TMEA) on Friday.
