The Latino Student Alliance is a new Bearden club created by students Mery Diaz and Amy Berlioz to celebrate culture and connect with students throughout the Bearden community.
“The club is made to empower the ELL students and the Hispanic community at Bearden in general,” Diaz said. “Me and Amy kind of converged our two initiatives, so I kind of wanted to make a club that united the ELL students, and she wanted to make a club that celebrated our culture.”
The Latino Student Alliance is a great place for students to celebrate their culture and connect with other students throughout the school.
“We decided that we really wanted to integrate our culture with the school and be able to make more groups of people that would be able to collaborate on different things,” sophomore Daniela Hernandez said. “It really helps people communicate with other members around the school because I’ve seen relationships flourish and friendships grow throughout the club.”
Not only is this club a great way to make new friends and celebrate culture, it also offers volunteer opportunities throughout the community.
“We hope that it will bring people together more,” Berlioz said. “We hope that it will make people want to share their culture and also want to give people the ability to volunteer for the club and have leadership opportunities.”
Added Hernandez: “Our students can find leadership positions, volunteer, get those hours and also relate that back to their culture.”
The Latino Student Alliance meets Wednesdays after school in Room 414.
