Bearden theatre has been working hard to prepare for the fall musical Legally Blonde.
While many musicals are set in the past, Legally Blonde is a modern day musical, which is different in many aspects – including its humor.
“I feel like this year a really easy thing for the show is that people can put more of themselves into a character, rather than having to act like a character, they can put their own personalities into their character,” said junior Pip Vogel, who plays Brooke Windom.
“Last year, my character was like 70 years old, and this year I’m playing a 27-year-old workout enthusiast, so it’s very different.”
Junior Audrey Wyatt, who plays Paulette, is looking forward to this change for the whole production and is excited for her new role.
“My last character, I didn’t say much at all, I was kind of just a background character, and stepping into a lead role is just like an insane jump,” she said.
With Legally Blonde being such a well known show, the cast is looking forward to iconic scenes in the production.
“I’m really looking forward to ‘Whipped Into Shape’ because that’s the number where I jump rope and sing,” Vogel said. “It’s the opening of Act II, so it’s really exciting.”
Added Wyatt: “I’m looking forward to the ‘Bend & Snap.’ I have a lot of quick one-liners that are really funny, and I really hope our audience likes them.”
While past shows have had humor in their dialogue, the cast hopes that the Legally Blonde script evokes even more laughs within the audience.
“I think one scene in particular, the scene of the crime, Caroline Alley comes on and she’s this totally different person, and she’s such a good actor and she always makes us break,” Wyatt said. “It makes rehearsal more fun when you have something to laugh about.”
Tickets for Legally Blonde are available at beardentheatre.com with shows Nov. 13, 14, and 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 16 at 2:30 p.m.
